Our Canvas Tents
Chicari Camp offers ten thoughtfully designed canvas tents, including eight safari tents and two unique treehide tents. The tents provide spacious interiors with cosy beds, solar-powered lighting, and private en-suite bathrooms, ensuring a comfortable retreat after a day of exploration. The two tree hide tents are at the base of a wooden tree hide and share a spacious deck, making them an ideal choice for two couples or a family travelling together. All tents offer wonderful views of the pan, and are connected by raised wooden walkways, creating a seamless flow through the camp while ensuring privacy and a close connection to nature.

At the heart of Chicari Camp is a spacious, shaded lounge, dining area and bar – a relaxed space to enjoy wholesome meals, a quiet read, or a drink while watching the wildlife drawn to the nearby pan. As evening falls, guests gather around the campfire to share stories from the day and listen to the sounds of the bush under a wide, starlit sky.
Thoughtfully designed with a light footprint, the camp runs entirely off-grid and is packed away at the end of each season.

Chicari Camp offers a variety of expertly guided activities, providing unique ways to explore Gorongosa National Park’s remarkable ecosystem. Embark on thrilling game drives to spot lions, elephants, and Gorongosa’s famous wild dogs, or venture out on walking safaris that can start right from the camp. Seasonal boating excursions reveal the beauty of the Urema floodplain, while bird enthusiasts will delight in the abundant avian species, particularly during the pan’s transformation into a vibrant wetland adorned with lilies and flocks of wading birds.
DINING AT CHICARI CAMP
Meals at Chicari Camp are a highlight of the safari experience, with fresh, wholesome dishes that celebrate local flavours and ingredients. From homemade treats at high tea to generous breakfasts and flavourful dinners, the menu is both nourishing and delicious. Gorongosa honey and locally grown coffee add a distinctive regional touch, connecting each meal to the land itself.
At the heart of it all is Head Chef Eddy and his talented team, who bring creativity and warmth to every plate. The dining area also houses the camp’s bar and central firepit, which is a natural gathering point where guests can unwind with a cocktail, share stories from the day, or simply soak in the sights and sounds of the surrounding wilderness. The space flows easily between eating, drinking, and relaxing, allowing each guest to settle in and enjoy the rhythm of camp life at their own pace.
